I have had mixed experiences with Laniote over past vintages, but their 2011 is a soft, round, dark ruby/purple-colored effort offering plenty of sweet currant, earth and spice characteristics. Low acidity and ripe tannin suggest drinking this lighter-styled wine over the next 4-5 years.

A wine with good fruit, but rather simple. Medium body, firm tannins and a simple finish. Drink or hold.

Fresh and direct, with flavors of raspberry- and spice-infused cherry preserves, backed by red licorice and fruitcake notes on the finish. A light, briary edge adds some definition. Drink now through 2017. — JM

Dense colour with vibrant red highlights. Nose of jammy red and black fruits. Ultra ripe palate showing more of the same exuberant perfumes with oak undertones structuring the whole. Slightly extreme in style at the moment.
