The 2008 Pietramarina (Carricante) is intensely pointed and mineral in this vintage. Bright citrus, flowers and the essence of crushed rocks are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass. This broad-shouldered yet pointed wine is endowed with tons of purity and a long, crystalline finish. It needs another two to three years in bottle before it starts to show the full breadth of its personality. Riesling-like petrol notes add intrigue with time in the glass. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2018.
Benanti is one of my favorite producers on the Etna. Unfortunately I was only able to taste a small selection of wines this year.
