The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon (a 1150-case blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot) looks to be a superstar in the making. An impressively deep purple color is followed by a sweet nose of roasted meats, black currants, melted licorice, and chocolate. It coasts over the palate with a full-bodied style, an unctuous texture, admirable purity, and a wonderful singularity. Cassis, chocolate, licorice, and background oak combine in this structured, powerful, impressively endowed Cabernet Sauvignon. As always, this cuvee will require 4-5 years of bottle age. It should age effortlessly for two decades or more. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025.P.S. A bottle of the 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon, tasted in late 2004, was an extraordinary monument to Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. This vintage has always been brilliant, but it is adding even more complexity to its wealth of fruit and concentration. Still in adolescence at age 13, wow, what a wine! (Release date 10/05)Tel.
