The new second wine of La Mission-Haut-Brion, Chapelle-Haut-Brion, is a worthy addition to the Dillon family's portfolio. The 1995 is a sleeper, and one of the better second wines of this vintage. It comes across as more extracted than the 1996, but offers a lovely, rich, medium-bodied, well-endowed personality. The wine reveals much of the character of La Mission-Haut-Brion in its sweet berry fruit intertwined with smoke, tobacco, and roasted herbs. Round, spicy, and generous, with no hard edges, it will provide ideal drinking over the next 7-8 years.
