The 1991 Nuits St.-Georges-Clos des Porrets exhibits a deep ruby color, a spicy, tight, reticent bouquet, and rich, well-focused structure and flavors. There is plenty of tannin in the finish, but the balance is not suspect. It needs 4-5 years of cellaring, so drink it between 1998-2007. The 1991 releases may turn out to be the most complete Gouges wines in over two decades. Although not exceptional, they display more color, bouquet, richness, and length than any vintage since Gouges' marvelous 1969s. Importer: Vineyard Brands (Robert Haas), Chester, VT.
