Aged in French oak barriques, 31% new, for 15 months, the 2009 Gimblett Gravels Syrah casts a deep garnet-purple color and pronounced black cherry, blackberry and black plum aromas with an edge of pepper and baking spices. Crisp, medium bodied and well supported with firm, chewy tannins, it offers just enough fruit in the mouth marked by refreshing acid and finishing long. Drinking now, it should cellar through 2016.
