The supple, soft, California-styled 1999 Syrah lacks the complexity of the finest Rhone Valley Syrahs and the old vine Shiraz cuvees from Australia's Barossa and McLaren Vale regions. Nevertheless, it exhibits a good, creamy vanillin oakiness to its blackberry fruit characteristics, soft, fleshy flavors, medium body, and plenty of mainstream appeal.
