The 2004 Beryna is 60% Monastrell, 10% Syrah, with four other varietals composing the balance of the blend. The Monastrell comes from 40-year-old, ungrafted vines. The wine is aged in barrel (33% new) for 12 months. Purple-colored, it presents an attractive array of aromas including cedar, forest floor, smoke, black currant, and blueberry. On the palate the wine is full-bodied with layered red and black fruit flavors, soft tannin, and a long, fruit-filled finish. Drink this excellent value over the next 3-4 years.
