Last Tasted 5/92Vietti's traditional style of winemaking has resulted in a backward, densely colored, powerful 1978 Barolo-Rocche that still possesses significant tannins. The nose reluctantly offers up smoky, earthy, leathery scents. The palate impression combines richness with considerable tannic clout. This tough-textured yet promising wine has barely budged in its evolution since I had it in the mid-eighties. I would suggest additional cellaring of at least 3-5 years.
