Vietti's 1988s are classic wines from this traditional Piedmontese winemaker. They are big, forceful, tannic wines that are meant to be cellared. The 1988 Barolo-Rocche has a dusty, dark ruby color, as well as a classic Barolo nose of roses, tar, and black-cherry fruit. Rich and full-bodied, with significant tannins and crisp acidity, this wine finishes with considerable muscle, with most of its exceptional richness perceived at the end of the palate. Do not touch a bottle before 1998; it should keep for 15-25 years thereafter.
