The Brundlmayer 2004 Riesling Heiligenstein displays lovely, invigorating citrus and flower aromas, with juicy, tarragon-scented, bright fresh lime and orange fruit flavors. Distinctively herbal and floral, as well as lip-smackingly salty in its finish, it presents a satisfying example of Kamptal Riesling but is by no means indicative of the best that Brundlmayer and other growers can glean from this great site. A couple of other bottlings Brundlmayer typically vinifies from Heiligenstein Riesling – harvested very late in 2004 – seemed to me tripped up by their heat and faint bitterness, at least on this occasion.
