Crisp cherries as well as tart strawberries make an appearance in the deep ruby-colored 2007 Pinot Noir Occidental Ridge. Made in a French style with a cool climate feel, it possesses sharp acids, medium body, and a closed, austere finish dominated by the wine's acidity. It should be consumed over the next 4-6 years. Given proprietor Ehren Jordan's experience working in France, it is not surprising that his wines possess French-like acid profiles as well as an unmistakable minerality. Jordan continues to fashion some brilliant white wines, including purchased fruit from John Alban's vineyard in Edna Valley. Acidic and tight now, a young wine that’s clearly not ready for current drinking. It needs time to knit together and mellow. But such is the balance of all the parts that it should easily negotiate through at least 2015, when the cherries, berries, cola, bacon, earth, exotic spices and sweet oak should meld.
