The 1991 Nuits St.-Georges-Les St.-Georges is more closed than the 1991 Nuits St.-Georges Les Vaucrains, with a tough, almost Bordeaux-like austerity to its flavors and personality. There appears to be sweet fruit and fine depth to this medium-bodied wine, but it is somewhat of a gamble given the fact that the tannins are more astringent than in the other Gouges wines. I would not touch a bottle of it for at least 5-6 years. The 1991 releases may turn out to be the most complete Gouges wines in over two decades. Although not exceptional, they display more color, bouquet, richness, and length than any vintage since Gouges' marvelous 1969s. Importer: Vineyard Brands (Robert Haas), Chester, VT.
