The 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva reveals a darkly saturated garnet color and medium dark concentration. There is a spicy note of white pepper that rises above dark fruit, leather and tobacco. This is a unique expression, unlike any other I have tasted from Chianti Classico especially because of those savory, peppery aromas that seems so out-of-the-box. The blend is 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot from the Castellina in Chianti sub zone. Only 7,000 bottles were made.
