Contino started producing small quantities of white wine a few years ago. The 2012 Blanco, a canonical blend of 85 % Viura, 10% Garnacha Blanca and 5% Malvasía Riojana, went through a cold maceration before fermenting in small stainless steel vats at low temperature. The end of the fermentation is carried out in 350- and 500-liter barriques, 90% new. The wine matured in barrel for 6-7 months with battonage twice per week and then transferred to vat again. The wine didn't go through malolactic fermentation. White fruit, yeasts and baked bread accent a palate that is a little smoky, round and full. It feels rather neutral and seems to have lowish acidity, so it could do with a little more freshness. To be honest, this is a little expensive for what it delivers. 3,900 bottles produced.
