The 2010 Mibal is pure Tempranillo from the youngest vines between 12 and 20 years in age that sees no oak. It has an uncomplicated bouquet of dark cherries and boysenberry fruit infused by wet tobacco aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded, quite supple tannins, plenty of spicy dark cherry and dark plum that leads to a sedate, almost leisurely finish. Drink now-2014. Hornillos Ballesteros is a small winery located in the town of Roa. They farm 40 hectares of vineyard but select 15 hectares for their own vines, the rest of the crop being sold off. The first young wine was in 2004. They have changed their philosophy using wood, reducing the new oak on the Crianza and using larger barrels, e.g. 225-liter to 300-liter.Importer: Ole Imports, Patrick Mata, New Rochelle, NY; tel.
