The single vineyard 1999 Cote Rotie Les Rochains (a parcel of vines situated next to La Landonne on the Cote Brune) boasts a saturated opaque purple color in addition to a splendidly complex bouquet of espresso, black cherries, cassis liqueur, licorice, new oak, and that elusive floral component reminiscent of paper white narcissus or violets. It is medium to full-bodied, intense, and opulently textured, with low acidity, sweet, well-integrated tannin, and a stunning, 40+ second finish. This is a sumptuous yet structured Cote Rotie. It is accessible, but it requires 3-4 more years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2015. One of the newest stars of Cote Rotie, the 1999s from the Bonnefonds are the finest efforts I have tasted from this small domaine.Importer: A Christopher Cannan Selection, various American importers including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel.
