The 2007 Barbaresco Gallina is a gorgeous, round wine laced with expressive dark fruit, spices and French oak. It shows lovely brightness and focus, especially if given some time in the glass or decanter to open up. The oak is a bit intrusive at the outset, but dissipates over time. I especially like the way the Gallina fleshes out on the mid-palate and finish. This is the most immediate of Busso’s current releases, much of which is attributable to the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022.
This is one of the most impressive lineups I have ever tasted from Piero Busso. It’s great to see this small, artisanal grower doing so well. Hopefully this is a sign of even greater things to come.
