The 2000 Chardonnay Clone 76 "Inox." (Inox is the French word for "stainless steel.") is a breakthrough effort, and a wine that more California wineries should be producing. The wine is 100% tank-fermented and aged. This ripe Chardonnay is reminiscent of some of Australia's blockbuster fruit bombs, yet there is undeniable minerality, focus, and precision to this big, full-bodied (15.1% alcohol) 2000. If you think you need oak in your Chardonnay, check out this wood-free offering. It should drink well for several years.
The immensely talented Greg Brewer is the force behind this impressive, limited production wine from this Santa Rita Hills winery (one of Santa Ynez's coolest micro-climates). This wine was bottled without fining or filtration, standard practice for this winemaker. Bravo!
