The 2012 El Puntido was cropped from an extremely dry year when they only saw some 289 liters during the vegetative cycle of the vine. Ripeness was high and the alcohol slightly higher, which in turn might have extracted a little more from the oak, which shows quite marked compared with the 2013 I tasted side by side. Comparing the two wines showed how they reflect the character of the vintage quite faithfully, which is something I like and appreciate. It's a matter of preference whether you like one vintage or the other. I personally like the fresher 2013 where I find better balance, but I'm aware many people might favor this 2012 instead. 48,000 bottles produced.
