The 2008 Gorvia was sourced from a single three acre vineyard with a blend of 90% Mencia, 5% Bastardo, and 5% Caino Redondo. The wine was macerated for 1 month with whole clusters followed by 14 months in French oak. Spicy cassis aromas, rose petal, raspberry, and an earthy minerality form the nose of this structured, dense, concentrated, lengthy offering. It has the structure to blossom for another 2-3 years and should drink well through 2023.
Quinta da Muradella, located in the town of Verin in the Monterrei DO, is a garage winery where proprietor Jose Luis Mateo and Raul Perez make wine from 34 unique, certified organic, parcels. A principal purpose of the project is to relate the history of the region through the wines. That fascinating story goes beyond the bounds of this report but the importer can provide more detailed information to those interested.
