The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a pretty, silky wine laced with sweet red cherries, savory herbs, anise, fennel, pipe tobacco and crushed flowers. Despite its attractive feel, the aromas and flavors are slightly forward, suggesting the wine needs to be enjoyed sooner rather than later. Herbal notes on the finish prove to be distracting. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2019.
This is a mixed set of releases from Altesino, one of Montalcino’s historic properties. The 2008 Brunellos and the 2007 Riserva in particular show signs of greenness and oxidation that recall the problems that plagued the 2001s a few years back.
