The cork in this bottle of Boillot's 1985 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère came out suspiciously easy, so it may be that this wasn't a perfect bottle—yet the wine showed no signs of fatigue or oxidation, it was simply a little simple and flaccid by the standards of site, vintage and producer. Offering up aromas of buttered apples, honeycomb and toasted nuts, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny textured and open-knit, with ripe acids, a trace of chalky back-end grip and a somewhat heady finish that shows signs of fraying. Perhaps there are better bottles out there.
