My favorite offering is the brilliant 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Cadiac, which comes from the Chapouin lieu-dit (spelled Chaupin by the Domaine de Janasse, which made this single vineyard famous). A blend of equal parts Grenache and Mourvedre aged in barrique, it is a seriously endowed (as one might expect with this much Mourvedre), dark ruby/purple-tinged, full-bodied effort displaying a meaty, black fruit, spring flower, earth and graphite-scented nose. Attractive and structured, with pure fruit and a long finish, this impressive 2009 should drink nicely for 10-15 years.

I’m not sure this estate made any 2008s since they did not present them in 2009 or 2010. From a bio-dynamically certified vineyard, the wines from Berthet-Rayne are clearly on the upswing.
