The Cascina Adelaide 2016 Barolo is a sharp and focused expression that offers a renewed approach compared to past vintages. The very flashy and contemporary oak tones that were previously part of this wine's DNA are downplayed in this edition. The frank character of the Nebbiolo grape is allowed to shine through unobstructed. The tannins are young and astringent, suggesting that this new release needs extra time to flesh out and soften. Having said that, for this release of 15,000 bottles at least, I'm not sure that tannic bitterness will ever fully disappear.

A compact red, whose macerated cherry, leather, hay and eucalyptus flavors are accented by spice. It's dense, almost chunky, save for the vibrant acidity that stretches out the finish.
