This is the so-called base Barolo from Cascina Adelaide that is not identified by a single vineyard or cru. Instead, the 2014 Barolo represents a blend of fruit from various sites throughout the appellation. I am surprised by the degree of ripeness achieved by this wine. It defies the general characteristics of this cooler vintage. The bouquet offers a blast of ripe cherry and blackberry followed by spice, campfire ash and smoke. Only 5,000 bottles were made.

Alluring aromas of rose, cherry, strawberry and tobacco mark this bright, juicy red. Though firm, this is beautifully balanced, leaving a fresh, tangy impression on the long finish.
