The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1Er Cru les Gruenchers needed a little time to come out of its shell in the glass. It unfolds with granitic scents infusing the carapace of blackberry and bilberry fruit - stoic but fresh and detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite Morey-like in terms of structure. A more masculine than feminine Chambolle-Musigny, it remains fresh and citric with an animated linear finish. It will need several years in bottle, but it should repay those who prefer strictness in their Chambolle.
