This back vintage reads Vino da Tavola on the label because it was bottled before qualifying for the Friuli Colli Orientali appellation. The Ronco delle Betulle 1994 Narciso is a blend of red grapes, which, if the same as more recent vintages, comprises Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Refosco. The wine opens to an immediate note of rosemary sprig or dried mint that adds lively and bright element to the bouquet. I get a note of clear eucalyptus oil as well, with some faint background tones of spice and spent ember. The longer this wine opens in the glass, the stronger and more intense that eucalyptus aroma becomes. To the palate, the wine has thinned out and the tannins are dry, but that fascinating bouquet is something I will remember.
