The 2005 Amarone della Valpolicella is a very pretty, well-balanced offering redolent of dark cherries, flowers, black berries, grilled herbs and leather. A long, refined finish rounds out this accessible Amarone. The aromas and flavors are already slightly forward, suggesting this medium-bodied Amarone is best enjoyed within the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015. Tedeschi seems to struggle achieving a consistent level of quality across all of their offerings. I found the simpler wines better balanced than the more important bottles. This may very well be a case of trying too hard, as the estate is clearly capable of making beautiful wines.Importer: Dreyfus Ashby & Co., New York, NY; tel. (212) 818-0770
