I cannot recall tasting a young Clos Rene as impressive as the 1994. Hopefully, the proprietor will not excessively manipulate and process the wine at bottling, stripping it of its wonderfully succulent, rich fruitiness. The wine reveals an opaque purple color followed by an overripe nose of cassis, plums, prunes, and herbs. Unctuously-textured, with terrific extract, low acidity, and plenty of tannin lurking behind the fruit, this jammy, thick, right bank claret should age well for 15+ years.
