Although austere and compact, this 1988 Brunello possesses enough positive attributes to merit a recommendation, although I would have liked to have detected more flesh and concentration. It is a muscular, highly structured wine with noticeably hard tannin, plenty of spice, good ripeness, and sweet, attractive fruit in the mid-palate. The wine's bouquet is closed but promising. It may merit a higher score with another 1-2 years of cellaring, and will keep for 10-15 years. Importer: Palace Brands, Hartford, CT.
