The 1995 Cold Creek Vineyard Chardonnay displays a straw color with touches of gold and a lively honeysuckle-infused nose. This wine offers a well-concentrated, silky, medium-to-full-bodied and superbly balanced core of minerals, stones and ripe white fruits. Could it be the New World's version of a Chassagne-Montrachet from a warm vintage such as 1989? Projected maturity: now-2001.
Chateau Ste. Michelle's wines are for the most part beautifully made, well-structured and well-defined. While not all of its offerings can be recommended, it amazes me that a large operation can maintain such high standards.
