The 2008 Terra d’Uno Seleccion comes from Finca El Romeral, which is populated by vines over 143 years in age. It is raised in new French oak for 18 months. It has a wonderful bouquet of mineral-rich, dark berry fruit that is sophisticated and offers outstanding clarity. The palate is beautifully balanced with firm, grippy tannins. This is a powerful, concentrated wine that does not take any prisoners – but that comes from the vines rather than any winery technique. The finish is immensely powerful, almost brutish at the moment, but I am intrigued to see how this ages. And to think – you get all that for less than three $10 bills.
Hacienda Terra d’Uro offers exceptionally fine Toro wines that are well worth seeking out, although I discerned very little difference in quality between the Terra d’Uro Seleccion and the “Uro,” which is triple the price.
