The 2010 Seleccion is the wine produced with the Tinta de Toro grapes from a 144-year-old vineyard, Finca El Romeral, at 750 meters altitude in Villafranca de Duero. The wine aged for 20 months in French oak and is still marked by its elevage with lactic and sweet spice notes and a core of ripe black fruit that develops honeyed and floral tones with time in the glass. The palate is medium to full-bodied and the tannins are round and glossy, with good tension and acidity despite feeling a tad warmer and riper. A Toro to follow. Drink 2015-2019. The aptly called Terra d’Uro, “l(fā)and of the bull,” is a joint venture between a restaurateur from Valladolid, Oscar Garrote (Vino Tinto), and winemaker Cristiano van Zeller from Douro in Portugal. They work their head-pruned, ungrafted Tinta de Toro vineyards organically, some of them extremely old, over 140 years of age.
