There are two 200 Monges reds from 2008, which might be a bit confusing. The so-called 2008 200 Monges Reserva is 85% Tempranillo with 10% Graciano and the rest Garnacha, fermented in oak vats for 11 days and matured in new French and American oak barrels for 18 months. It's hard to imagine how a cold and rainy vintage like 2008 could produce such ripe aromas of dark, macerated berries and develop dark aromas of graphite and wet fur. The palate shows plenty of edgy tannins and a somewhat dry finish ending with a bitter taste, like the fruit seems to be fading. For fans of the style. Drink up. 55,000 bottles.
