There are only 1,800 bottles of the estate’s 1999 Vin San Giusto. Boasting a whopping 410 grams of residual sugar, it is a wine that falls outside of normal conventions as it has too much sugar to qualify for the Vin Santo DOC and not enough alcohol to be labeled an IGT. Nevertheless, it is an awesome effort: rich, viscous, and fully flavored- yet not at all heavy- in its expression of honey, candied almonds and orange rind, with phenomenal length and an eternal finish. This beautiful, if very atypical expression of sweet wine from Chianti Classico can be enjoyed now and over the next decade, if not considerably longer. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2019.
