The 2007 Barolo Arione is a big, muscular Barolo. Quite surprisingly, it is also the most forward of these 2007s, which I did not expect given the vineyard’s location in Serralunga. Dried roses, tar and berries are some of the notes that emerge from this rich Barolo. Ultimately, the Arione comes across as somewhat one-dimensional, with limited complexity and an advancing bouquet that suggests it will be relatively early maturing. Still, there is a beautiful, open quality to the fruit that should provide enjoyment at least over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2017.
