The spectacular 1997 Pinot Noir One Acre Vineyard (200 cases) from Anderson Valley could easily pass for a top-notch premier cru from the Cote de Nuits. Made from modest yields, it reveals a deep ruby color with purple nuances. The aromatics include black cherries, cassis, spice, herb, and flower blossoms. Medium to full-bodied, with terrific fruit purity, and a lush, open-knit texture, this complex Pinot Noir possesses sensational potential. The wine will be approachable when released, yet should age nicely for 7-8 years. Ted Lemon told me that he did a saignee of all his 1997 Pinots because of high yields, and that all of these wines were scheduled to be bottled with neither fining nor filtration.
