A new offering in the Ravenswood portfolio, the 1991 Zinfandel-Belloni Vineyard, displays an opaque, saturated black/purple color, and an unevolved nose of soaring scents of black-raspberries, earth, and pepper. There is exceptional density of fruit, spectacular intensity and structure, as well as a full-bodied, moderately tannic, well-delineated finish. Along with the 1991 Zinfandel-Old Hill, the Belloni Vineyard offering gets my nod as potentially one of the two finest Zinfandels Ravenswood has produced. But be forewarned, the Belloni needs at least 3-4 ears of cellaring. It should last through most of the first decade of the next century.
