With fruit sourced from various points in the appellation, the 2011 Barolo shows some of the heat of the vintage. This is a dark and thick expression of Nebbiolo that offers a dense core of black cherry and ripe plum. There is a touch of softness here that is immediately followed by the austerity and the firm structure you normally get with this beautiful grape. It's hard to get Barolo at this low price.

A core of sweet, dried cherry and berry fruit anchors truffle, soy, licorice and leather notes in this complex red. Richly tannic, this remains resonant on the long, spice- and underbrush-inflected aftertaste.
