The 2010 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico (packaged in a 375-milliliter bottle) reveals a dark golden color with amber and copper highlights. The bouquet delivers classic Vin Santo aromas of resin, maple syrup, brown sugar and roasted chestnut. Those pretty nutty characteristics are very evident in this excellent vintage. The wine is sweet and succulent but not in an obvious or monotone way. There is enough savory spice and baked vanilla here to balance out those sugary and caramelized flavors. The blend is 50% Trebbiano and 50% Malvasia, and the wine is aged in small caratelli barrels for seven years. Only 8,600 bottles were made.
