Tired of being ripped off by over-priced mediocrities parading under the name of Sangiovese from California? Check out this wine from Di Majo Norante. Made from 100% Sangiovese, tank-fermented, and aged in old oak foudres, this is a terrific bargain. The medium ruby color is accompanied by a sweet nose of strawberry jam and black cherries. The wine is round and richly fruity with a soft texture, fine balance, and a lush, velvety finish. It can be served slightly chilled and drunk over the next 12-18 months. It makes a mockery of many of the $20-$30 Sangioveses from California that, frankly, are overcropped, overpriced, and mediocre. In my search for the mightiest values on planet Earth, this winery distinguished itself with a bevy of distinctive, original, flavorful, tasty wines that are selling at bargain basement prices.A Leonardo Lo Cascio Selection, Winebow, Hohokus, NJ; tel.
