Meo-Camuzet’s 2011 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru aux Boudots has a bouquet similar to Patrice Rion’s Amoureuses but is more controlled, with fresh cranberry and red cherries, a touch of tomato leaf suggesting just a little under-ripeness, but it actually ameliorates with time in the glass, coalescing with macerated red cherries, Maraschino and a touch of cassis. The palate is medium-bodied, with a dense yet static opening. The oak seems a little dominant at the moment and suppresses the fruit and character expression of Amoureuses, the finish just a little tapered and masculine, balanced and fresh but missing verve at the moment. Maybe that will develop with time because one can see the potential. Tasted June 2014.
