Matured in French barrels for 22 months, 80% new, the 2009 “The Beast” Shiraz gives a very deep garnet-purple color and youthfully subdued notes of warm blackberries, mulberries and cinnamon toast with nuances of violets, smoked duck, coffee and cedar. Full bodied and taut in the mouth, it has a good backbone of medium-firm, finely grained tannins and crisp acid, finishing long. Approachable now, it should cellar to 2024+.
