The fruit for the Cote Est cuvee is trucked to California where it is made by Steve Ryan, formerly of Martinelli. The 2009 Pinot Noir Cote Est was fermented with native yeasts and aged in 60-70% new oak. Ruby red in color, the bouquet exhibits notes of dried herbs and spices, floral aromas cherry, and raspberry. This sets the stage for a velvety-textured, succulent, concentrated, nicely proportioned wine that has enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years. This pleasurable offering will drink well through 2019.
Tom Mortimer has divided his Le Cadeau Vineyard into five parcels with each block produced by a different winemaker. It is a relatively young vineyard with plantings in 1999, 2002, 2006, and 2008.
