The 2013 Castillo de Belarfonso is Canopy's entry-level Garnacha from two vineyards in the village of El Real de San Vicente. The label is a humorous take on all the nobility and chateaus found in so many wines and shows a blow-up castle; a sense of humor that shows up in all their products. The vineyards are on granite soils and the grapes ferment with indigenous yeast. The wine is aged for four months in used 600-liter oak barrels. It feels very young and has an initial reduction, so energetic decanting will do no harm. It's a fresh, fruit-driven pale red, with very fine tannins, good freshness and very well-integrated oak. This is great value for money. Drink fresh with your barbecue. 17,340 bottles produced.
