The fun 2014 Castillo de Belarfonso had some smoky, bacon aromas that made me think of Syrah, despite being 100% Garnacha. There are some aromas of pollen and honey intermixed with the red and black fruit and licorice notes. There was a light extraction and the wine was rounded by four months in used 600-liter oak barrels. The palate is soft and lush, with almost absent tannins and a fruit-driven character. Very pleasant, approachable and quite a bargain. 19,730 bottles produced.
