Drouhin does a marvelous job with his Beaune-Clos des Mouches. The 1990, which is one of the best he has made during the last decade, exhibits a medium dark ruby color. The nose reveals copious quantities of red and black fruits nicely married with smoky, toasty new oak. In the mouth, this wine is pure, rich, and medium-bodied, with excellent balance and precision. The wonderful sweet, jammy fruit of the 1990 vintage is abundantly displayed. The velvety finish includes some round tannins. Drinkable now, this wine will continue to improve for 5-7 years. Drouhin makes stylish, elegant red burgundies which, from a technical point of view, are always flawless. His 1990s from the Cote de Beaune are lovely, pure, medium-weight wines with both elegance and gracefulness. The characteristics of the 1990 vintage - the super color, sweet, expansive fruit and ripeness - are also apparent, despite the Drouhin signature. Importer: Dreyfus Ashby, New York, NY.
