The finest Cotes de Gascogne has consistently been Domaine de Pouy, a wine made by the brilliant oenologist, Yves Grassa. When this offering was first imported by Bobby Kacher, only several thousand cases were available, but it has become so incredibly popular for its delightful combination of unrestrained citrusy fruit, light to medium body, and pure style, that Kacher now imports (and quickly sells) 20,000 cases. The gorgeously perfumed 1997 reveals more ripeness and punch than previous vintages. Although not complex, it is oh, so satisfying. Drink it over the next 8-10 months.Almost single-handedly, importer Robert Kacher has developed an enthusiastic following for this small viticultural area, known largely for its refreshing, dry, crisp, exuberantly fruity whites that need to be drunk during their first 6-9 months of life.Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel.
