Yves Grassa’s 2007 Cotes de Gascogne Blanc – a blend of Ugni Blanc and Colombard – displays a headier, more pungent aroma than usual for blends of this genre. Lime and Tangerine zest and a spicy, lightly smoky note suggest a hint of exotic over-ripeness, and while the wine is refreshing, there is a hint of oiliness to its texture, pronounced phenolic fruit skin intensity of gooseberry and peach, and stony, saline finishing suggestions. In short, this is more serious than one expects for its appellation or price, but I would make sure to drink it over the coming 6-9 months.Importer: Robert Kacher Selections,Washington, DC; tel.
